Everyone has probably heard that sitting is the 'new smoking', meaning that sitting for long periods has long term health risks. Therefore everywhere people are trying to be more active during the day, especially those who are sitting at a desk for 8 hours or more a day. Here are five ways to increase activity by making small changes in your everyday routine.
1) Stop further away from the mall entrance
Rather use the minutes you are waiting for the best parking spot in front of the shop, by parking further away and get in a healthy brisk walk.
2) Take the stairs
We all know elevators are actually meant for people in a wheelchair or with a walking aid. If you are able to use the stairs, do so. Full stop.
3) Drink more water
A two in one healthy choice for the day. More water is great for your body to keep you hydrated and the resulting more trips to the bathroom are great for your step tracker.
4) Go for a walk in your lunch break
Rather than continuing to sit for lunch but only in a different spot, go and enjoy the outdoors for a 15 minutes stroll. 5) Have walk dates Save money and calories. Rather than going to a coffee shop for a date with your partner or friend (and sit again), go for a 30 minute walk together.
